A significant milestone reached today: my first Trial on my feet, a three-day contested hearing that concluded successfully at the no-case-to-answer stage, with charges dismissed against both clients.
I have previously appeared as an advocate in the District Court and the High Court, including several times during my training contract as a trainee solicitor in civil matters (chamber hearings).
I have also appeared on my feet in all Magistrates’ Courts and the District Court for mentions, pleas, and sentencing hearings; conducted several Trials as an instructing solicitor; and attended proceedings across different levels of Court (including Family Court).
But this was different: my first fully contested Criminal Trial on my feet from start to finish.
Huge congratulations to both clients.
It was an intense but invaluable experience in preparation, cross-examination, identifying the real evidential issues, and making focused legal submissions under pressure.
A sincere thank you to everyone who supported and guided me throughout.
I learned a great deal from the experience and look forward to continuing to develop as an advocate!
